about

This special compilation marks the release of 100 original albums by First Earth Records with our 101st album being an introduction to all our fantastic artists & their collaborative projects of the past decade.

The foundation stone of First Earth Records was established in the meeting of the tribes in Dublin’s underground & alternative music scene circa 2011-2012. A new generation of musicians & artists found each others parallel creativity was ripe for collaboration and before the Winter Solstice of 2012 a new experiment was born in the expansive joy of the improvised music collective sun OM sun. A band who pursued the pure freedom of musical expression.

Out of these collaborations and free experimentation grew a series of musical projects that birthed the creation of First Earth Records. A place where independent artists could create, collaborate and support one another's work in an open network of creative potential.

We took our many projects online and began sharing a cornucopia of musical creations with the world and were delighted to find a new generation of contemporary independent artists around the globe who mirrored our own creative impulse.

Our over riding philosophy has been to make the music we want to hear, the music that is never played on contemporary algorithmic radio. The music presented here is a mix of all styles, techniques and genres. It is everything from folk, rock, electronic, jazz and avant garde. It is music made with love on a journey into the unknown.

We have done our best to distil a near decades worth of work into a compilation that gives a flavour of all our artists and their unique projects. This album offers one track from each artist and unique collaborative project as an introduction to our discography. We hope you enjoy the trip and investigate and support the new artists you discover.

Special thanks to all the great musicians & artists involved over the years & thanks to all those who have been listening.

Keith Re-Generate

TRACK GUIDE;

1) So Strangely by Zzzazen

Genre: Electronic/Mash Up

Zzzazen is a remix & mash up artist who unexpectedly joined us as we began our Bandcamp project and offered us a wild exploration of sound as a synchronous source of many hidden meanings and messages in the fusion of genre and radio dials spun together with the question... can you find the meaning in the synchronicity?

Genre: Rock/Funk/Psychedelic

sun OM sun was a jam band based project that evolved out of Dublin’s underground scene and formed the basis of the collaborations that created First Earth Records. This band represented the pure philosophy of making the music you wanted to hear on the radio that didn’t exist. The music created was a combination of pure live spontaneous creation and post live studio experimentation. The unique mix here offers a sample of both sides of the band; live & studio.

Rainbow Prophet Cat began as another method of combining the live improvising talent of First Earth Records musicians with post jamming processing, fusion and experimentation. From tiny scratches eventually came singing synthetic sounds that sought to breech the vastness between the human and mouse world. Sexy Baby Mice recorded a plethora of psychedelic psounds that psought freedom of the pneuma from the panopticon of plastic people. This track one of the highlights from their Best Of shared with First Earth Records

firstearthrecords.bandcamp.com/album/sexy-baby-mice-the-human-experiment

23) Mark Bark Battles the Dark Shark by DJ Mark Bark

Genre: Electronic/Mash Up/Silky Knees

A long time proponent of remaining mid air between the underground scene’s of Dublin & Berlin DJ Mark Bark shared a particularly idiosyncratic vision of contemporary music with First Earth Records. As he says himself “Mark Bark is the intersection of post millennial existential dread and day glow 1980’s optimism in a world of humorous confusion, CHECK IT!”

DJ Mark Bark insisted he was a friend of DJ Osiris and somehow ended up remaking the Dublin Fringe Fringe Fringe Festival in his own iconoclastic image with an uncompromising deployment of his silky knees in which all else continued to slide off and refuse to remain stuck. His first album for First Earth Records captured a side of mash up along with a very long side of the 1980’s gradually being melted by looping free jazz. His second album was an intimate look at the fate of Salome.

He was last seen stalking Michael O’Leary around the Bilderberg car park in the hope of selling his DNA as the basis of a new clone army to man all future Ryanair flights (including crew & passengers).

firstearthrecords.bandcamp.com/album/field-of-knees
